PLI Community Connection Helps Homeless Shelter

On April 24th a group of Phoenix Logistics associates volunteered at the Central Christian Homeless out reach (ACTS). PLI Operations Manager Danny Dong who sponsored the project described the volunteer effort: “We pick up homeless guests and bring them to the shelter for breakfast, showers, clean clothing and haircuts on the first and third Saturday of each month. Servant ministers drive vans, prepare and serve breakfast, assemble and distribute toiletries, hand out clothing, and pray and visit with the guests.” He added, “It’s extremely rewarding to see so many associates from PLI eager to join in helping the local homeless community. Thank you to Tina Tran, Michelle Tran, Susan Hunsaker, Mabel Gonzales, Courtney and her husband David, Robert Illardi, Dawn Akens and Bobby, Claudia Valles and her daughter, and Kain Rivera for making this inaugural event such a success.”

The group was inspired to make this a continuing effort and went back to the shelter to volunteer again on May 1st, 2010. In addition to the volunteer activity the team set up collection points at PLI where associates could donate necessities such as toiletries and clothing to the shelter. Two PLI associates, Lamngeun Keomany and South donated an entire clothing basket of items such as shampoo, shaving cream, toothpaste, Tooth brushes, deodorant, and soap.
